Sander grew up in Opglabbeek, where he was a student at the Sint-Lambertusschool. He attended the first grade of secondary education at Heilig Hart Middle School in Bree. But then he resolutely opted for training as a cook at the Hotel School Ter Duinen in Koksijde, where he completed an extra year in 'world gastronomy'. During his studies in Koksijde, he completed internships in a number of top restaurants:
After school he worked for almost five years in restaurant Hertog Jan (***) in Zedelgem, under the wings of top chef Gert De Mangeleer. Since August 2019 he is active freelance in various restaurants within and outside our province. And now he runs his own restaurant in Opglabbeek.
During his training at the hotel school, Sander was given the nickname Modest, after the mayor's aide Samson and Gert, as his father was mayor of Opglabbeek at the time. That nickname fits in more ways than one as Sander is also a modest young man of 29, with extraordinary cooking skills.
